WNCC’s Kinkella Earns Regents’ Academic Advisor Award

The Nevada System of Higher Education Board of Regents has named Western Nevada Community College Dean of Students John Kinkella Academic Advisor of the Year. Kinkella has been with the college since 2004.

Kinkella was recognized for being an outstanding advocate for student success and a tremendous academic advisor. Nominators described him as an effective communicator who connects with students, and an organized administrator with good attention to detail and follow-up.

At Western, he has served as vice chair of the Administrative Faculty Senate, and on a number of committees including the Strategic Planning for Institutional Effectiveness Committee. He is also a graduate of the Carson City Chamber of Commerce Leadership program, volunteers at the Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center Behavioral Health Services Center, and is a member of the Carson City Methamphetamine Task Force.
