Western Nevada Community College baseball players Andrew Reid and Logan Parsley have been selected to compete in the first National Junior College Athletic Association Freshman All-Star Series Thursday-Saturday, June 14-16, in Millington, Tenn. The best freshmen junior college players in the country will play in a Scout Night practice on Thursday at 7:30 p.m., a game on Friday at 7 p.m., and two games on Saturday at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m.
This series was created so that players could showcase their talents to professional scouts and four-year college representatives. Players were nominated by their coaches and then selected by San Jacinto College head coach Tom Arrington, who will coach the East All-Stars, and New Mexico Junior College head coach Ray Birmingham, who will direct the West All-Stars.
Reid made the 2007 Scenic West Athletic Conference first team in his first year and led the conference in batting average (.372). He finished the season with 66 total bases, 27 runs batted in, 58 hits, 25 runs scored, and a .479 on-base percentage in 156 at bats.
Parsley, a Carson High School graduate, ended with 14 stolen bases, 72 total bases, 17 runs batted in, 50 hits, and 34 runs scored in 203 at bats.
