AT&T Donates $10,000 to Western Nevada College

Recognizing the fact that Nevada ranks low in the rate at which high school students move on to college, the AT&T Foundation has donated $10,000 to support Western Nevada College’s “Bridge to Success” program.

“AT&T is proud to support Western Nevada College and the ‘Technology Bridge to Success’ day as well as other programs that have made it such an asset to so many students and professionals in communities throughout Nevada,” said Hal Lenox, AT&T Nevada president. “We support WNC’s efforts to encourage students to pursue a college education.”

In November, more than 500 high school students will visit WNC and meet with technology instructors in areas of interest. Students will receive information about admissions, counseling, financial aid, and registration. Lunch will be provided and students will have a chance to win prizes, including a scholarship to Western.

“This outreach will target minorities who are interested in Western’s occupational programs,” said John Kinkella, WNC dean of Student Services. “These programs lead to high demand, high wage jobs. This grant will be a significant help to us in achieving our goal of increasing minority participation in higher education.”

For more than 60 years, AT&T has committed more than $1.8 billion to philanthropic programs supporting education, community development, the arts, health and human services, and technology access in communities across the country.
