Press Release
Janet King has joined Western Nevada College as the new social psychology instructor at the Fallon campus. She will teach a variety of courses including general psychology, child psychology and principles of sociology. On the side, she teaches two non-credit community education classes on chocolate tasting and cooking Mexican-style with pork and chili peppers.
"Political science was my first love", King said. "My interest in politics began when I was a teenager writing weekly letters to Jimmy Carter, the soon-to-be-president. In response to my correspondence and enthusiasm, I received letters and photographs from him, as well as an invitation to his inauguration."
Her interest in sociology and psychology increased when she was with the Maricopa Community College District in Arizona. King worked more than 15 years in part-time and full-time capacities while raising three children and taking graduate classes in psychology.
She holds a Master's degree in Sociology from Mississippi State University and a Bachelor's degree in Political Science and Sociology from the University of North Alabama. King has also worked and supported youth through membership in Optimists International and was honored to serve as lieutenant governor for the organization. "I look forward to continuing my participation in the local community by serving in various capacities," she added.
