Goalkeeper Allie Otto's 254-minute shutout streak came to an end as Western Nevada College (7-3, 0-2 conference) fell to North Idaho College 2-1 Saturday at Carson High School. The Wildcats rebounded Sunday with a dominant 9-0 victory over Lassen College in Susanville, Calif.
All three of Western's losses this season have been by one goal. On Saturday, WNC started slowly, getting out-shot 8-5 in the first half and falling behind 2-0. Alexia Balmaseda narrowed the lead to one with a score on a free kick at the 85-minute mark; but the Wildcats did not score again.
On Sunday, the Wildcats took their frustrations out on Lassen College, scoring nine goals and out-shooting the Cougars 38-0 for their fifth shutout of the season. Balmaseda was again the star with one goal and three assists, and even took a turn as goalkeeper in the second half. Starting goalkeeper Allie Otto moved to forward in the second half and picked up an assist.
Kim Duke scored two goals for Western, and Jesse Chitwood, Kalah Minter, Meghan Olsen, Jordan Forman, Carmen Manson, and Cassie Romeo added one apiece. Forman had two assists and Virginia Loyola had one.
The Wildcats will travel to Salt Lake City this week for a conference game against Salt Lake Community College Friday and a non-conference game versus Laramie County Community College Sunday. Both games begin at noon.
