The Western Nevada College soccer team (7-4-1, 0-2-1 conference) tied Salt Lake Community College Friday 1-1 in a close conference match that could have gone either way. The Wildcats then fell 6-1 on Sunday to Laramie County Community College, the seventh-ranked National Junior College Athletic Association team in the nation, in a non-conference contest.

On Friday, the Wildcats outshot SLCC 15-5 but couldn't close the deal in Salt Lake City. Alexia Balmaseda tied the game in the second half with an assist from Kim Duke, and had several chances to put the Wildcats ahead. However, Salt Lake put a stop to five out of six scoring tries by Balmaseda. Jordan Forman had eight corner kicks in the contest.

On Sunday, Balmaseda scored Western's only goal off a lob from Virginia Loyola at the 63-minute mark. The Wildcats finished with nine shots on goal but could get only one past the tough Eagles goalkeeper.

WNC will travel to Coeur d'Alene this week to play North Idaho College on Friday at 4 p.m. and Great Falls University Saturday at 10 a.m. The Wildcats’ regular season ends with a visit to Corsicana, Texas, to face Cisco College on October 20 and Navarro College on October 21.
