Be 'Like Mike,' Produce a Video and Learn Tai Chi at WNC

Want to learn how to produce video? Looking to relieve the physical effects of stress on the body and mind? Do your children want to “be like Mike” and play basketball? Western Nevada College will offer several non-credit community education workshops on these subjects and more in the coming weeks.

Temma Keaton-Hammond, an award-winning producer with more than 35 years of film and television production, will teach Video Production Workshop (CMSV 094C, Call #11096, Sec. C01) on Wednesday-Thursday, Oct 17-18, 5:30-8:30 p.m. Students will receive hands-on training in developing a story line, producing, directing, makeup, wardrobe, lighting and camera techniques. Cost: $175.

Tai Chi (CMSV 094C, Call #31183, Sec. C01), on Tuesdays and Thursdays, Oct. 23-Dec. 13, 5:30-6:30 p.m., is one of the fastest growing fitness and health maintenance activities in the United States. Tai Chi, considered a “soft” martial art and meditation in motion, has a reputation for ameliorating the effects of aging. Cost: $100.

Galena High School and former Division I collegiate basketball coach Adrian Buoncristiani will conduct College for Kids: Basketball Fun-damentals (CMSV 094C, Call #31183, Sec. C01) on Saturday, Oct. 20, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Third grade students through high school seniors will work on sharpening their rebounding, dribbling, passing, and shooting skills. Students must bring their own basketball, brown bag lunch and lots of water. Cost: $40 for early registration, $45 at the door.

Master Craftman Bob Martini will teach students how to create the look of a marble fireplace in Wood Graining & Faux Finishing (CMSV 086C, Call #31156, Sec. C05) on Saturday, Nov. 3, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Students will learn wood graining, finishes, antiquing and faux finishes, and wall glazing. Cost: $100.
