WNC Students Earn Fallon Optimist Award
Two Fallon high school seniors who are co-enrolled in classes at Western Nevada College have been recognized by the Fallon Optimist Club. Katie O'Toole and Christina Conner have been presented with the Optimist Youth Appreciation Award. Both are taking college classes at Western while in high school through a dual enrollment program that allows the students to earn both college and high school credit for their courses.
They were nominated by Janet King, a member of the club and a sociology/psychology instructor at the WNC Fallon campus. King teaches General Psychology, Principles of Sociology, Contemporary Social Issues, and Introduction to Marriage and Family.
The Fallon chapter of Optimist International is a strong supporter of education in the community, funding six book scholarships to WNC students in the Fallon area, plus two $1,000 scholarships to high school students.
