One down and three to go. With the Scenic West Athletic Conference title on the line, the Western Nevada College Wildcats baseball team went to work Friday. When the day was done, the 'cats shut out College of Eastern Utah in the first game of the doubleheader, 4-0.
In game one, winning pitcher Kyle Starratt allowed only two hits in six innings, and closer Javy Perez allowed one in the final inning.
Western put on a show in the fifth inning, scoring all four runs in a single rally. Centerfielder Cliff Shepard started the action with a single. Logan Parsley added a single to right field that sent Shepard to third, and he came home on a wild pitch for the first score.
Catcher Chuck Howard smacked a double to right field to bring in Parsley. Then, Kyle Gutchewsky hit a single. Brian Barnett hit a double to bring Howard home, and Lance Ray's single brought Gutchewsky in for the 4-0 lead.
