The Western Nevada College Wildcats baseball team is 3-1 in Scenic West Athletic Conference tournament play in Henderson, and is headed for the finals today at 2 p.m. against cross-state rival College of Southern Nevada.
Western had a rocky start Thursday in the opening round of the postseason tournament at Henderson, but they recovered. The 'cats fell to Salt Lake Community College 7-2 and then held on to beat Colorado Northwestern Community College 13-7.
Facing elimination with a loss to the College of Southern Idaho Friday in a 1 p.m. contest, Western blasted the bats to a 12-4 win in seven innings. The 'cats then turned the tables on Salt Lake 11-1 in a rematch Friday evening, playing themselves into the championship contest.
Because Western has one loss and CSN has none, the Wildcats will have to beat the Coyotes twice this afternoon to recapture the Region 18 title they won last year, also against CSN.
The Wildcats finished the regular season as runners up in the SWAC with a 29-11 conference record, just one game out of first place.
