Nursing Pinning Ceremony Set for Tuesday

Western Nevada College's 2008 nursing graduates will celebrate their accomplishments with a traditional pinning ceremony Tuesday, May 20, in addition to walking across the stage at one of the college's two commencement ceremonies. The nurse pinning ceremony is set for 2 p.m., at the Carson City Community Center.

Forty-nine students are slated to graduate from Western with an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Nursing. They will then be eligible to sit for the national exam to become registered nurses. This year's class is far-flung, with students from Carson City, Dayton, Fallon, Fernley, Gardnerville, Minden, Reno, Silver Springs, Washoe Valley and Yerington, as well the California cities of Bishop, South Lake Tahoe and San Francisco.

The students spent two intensive years in the program, following at least one year's worth of prerequisite courses and a competitive selection process. They learned in college labs and classrooms, as well as in clinical experiences at all types of hospital and health care settings, throughout Northern Nevada and at Lake Tahoe.
