Sculpture Exhibit show 9/29-11/5

Artist Edw Martinez Brings "Cairn" to WNC

Edw Martinez, an internationally known artist, sculptor and printmaker, will bring "Carson Cairn and Other Objects" to the Main Gallery at Western Nevada College September 29 through November 5.

Martinez has been creating both two-dimensional and three-dimensional art in Nevada for four decades. A retired University of Nevada art professor, he maintains studios in Virginia City and Las Vegas. He has participated in more than 280 group and one-person exhibitions at the regional, national and international level, including all 50 states.

For the past four years, Martinez has been working primarily as a sculptor. In his words: "I think of myself as an 'object maker' who chooses to work in clay. I work by hand in the medium's traditional manner while stretching its identity as a contemporary three-dimensional material."

There will be an artist's reception on Wednesday, Oct. 8, from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at the gallery in the Bristlecone Building. An artist's talk and demonstration of his techniques will be Thursday, Oct. 9, from 4-6:45 p.m. in Aspen Building 210. All events are free and open to the public.
