Wildcats Heading for California this Week
Western Nevada College's Wildcats baseball team shook off a slow start to its season last weekend to secure a four-game split against South Mountain College of Phoenix. Now 2-2, WNC heads to Riverside Community College in California for a three-game stand Thursday-Saturday.
Western opened the season Friday afternoon and was trailing South Mountain 9-3 when the game was postponed due to lighting problems. Saturday, the Wildcats began with a 3-2 loss, but then found the bats for a 6-1 win.
Sunday, WNC opened with a 3-2 victory. The Wildcats then finished Friday's suspended match, making a run with a five-run rally in their last two at-bats, but falling just short at 9-8.
In the series, first baseman Eric Maupin (Galena/Washington State) tallied two hits and two runs, while outfielder Brian Barnett (McQueen) contributed one run and two hits. Top scorers included centerfielder Lance Ray who had three runs and six hits, and third baseman Travis Feiner with four runs and three hits.
