Friday doubleheader begins at 11:30 a.m.
Western Nevada has a brand new women's softball program, and is offering free admission at its first home series this weekend to bring out the public. Two doubleheaders will be played Friday and Saturday at Centennial Park in Carson City against North Idaho College.
WNC students, faculty and staff receive free admission to all games with a college ID card.
Friday's doubleheader against begins at 11:30 a.m. and Saturday's doubleheader begins at noon, on field no. 5.
Coach Scott Rasner said he's looking forward to playing at home. "We'd love to see a lot of local support for the team." He said the Wildcats played well in their first road trip, and will expect strong competition from North Idaho.
"They play well, and they're very powerful. The SWAC (Scenic West Athletic Conference) is full of tough teams," he said.
Nine of the 15 Wildcats softball team members are from northern Nevada, including Lowry's Ambar Huish, who is one of two starting pitchers on the roster and who will see plenty of playing time.
Rasner's team is coming off a four-game sweep of Colorado Northwestern last week, crushing the Spartans by scores of 8-0, 13-2, 19-2 and 15-3. Those wins came after a bruising start against No. 20 ranked Salt Lake Community College that swept the Wildcats in St. George on February 4 and 5.
