Anyone trying to land a job in today's difficult economy has at least two hurdles to overcome: how to create a resume that will stand out, and how to perform well in an interview.
Western Nevada College Carson City offers two short, non-credit classes beginning the first week of March to help the unemployed or underemployed worker.
"Employment Magic" is an intensive three-day course that will teach new ideas on how to search for a job and how to have your resume stand out from the others. This non-credit course (call number 14147, CMSV 081C C02) will meet Monday through Wednesday, March 2-4, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Cedar Building Rm. 313. Cost is $320, but for those who are unemployed the course may be paid with prior approval from Nevada JobConnect. The Carson City JobConnect office is located at 1929 North Carson Street.
A second class, "Pre-Employment Skills" will meet four Tuesdays, March 3-25, 7-8:30 p.m., at the WNC High Tech Center @ Carson High School, Rm. 303. Cost: $25 (call number 18662, CMSV 081C C01) Students will learn interviewing skills, including ways to present themselves professionally and with confidence.
To register, go to the Western web site at www.wnc.edu and click on Web-REG. The courses are listed in the Spring Schedule under non-credit Community Education classes.
