Need $$$ for College?
Those who have been caught in the financial downturn may want to return to college to improve their marketability, but are unsure if they qualify for assistance. The good news is that many are eligible through the Free Application for Federal Student Aid or FAFSA.
Western Nevada College is hosting workshops in Carson City and Fallon to help students fill out their FAFSA form, apply for WNC scholarships, and have their financial aid questions answered.
The Fallon workshops will be Monday, March 23, noon to 1 p.m. and 5 to 6 p.m. in Sage Hall, room 101. The Carson City workshop will be Thursday, March 26, 5:30 to 7 p.m. in the Cedar Building, room 331B.
Several pieces of information are required to fill out the form and to prove eligibility: Social Security Number and driver's license, 2008 W-2 Forms and other records of money earned, a copy of your 2008 Federal Income Tax form, including spouse's form if married. To determine eligibility, information regarding untaxed income is also needed, such as veteran's benefits, child support and workers' compensation, along with copies of current bank statements.
For those who are dependents, a copy of parents' 2008 Federal Income Tax Form is required and those who are not U.S. citizens need to show alien registration or a permanent resident card. For questions, contact Western's Financial Assistance Office at 445-3264.
