Take series with Northern Colorado
Western Nevada's softball team was perfect in four games this past weekend against Colorado Northwestern Community College. WNC took advantage of sunny weather and a home field advantage to dominate both doubleheaders.
Friday, the Wildcats found the bats and held their defense against the Spartans, dominating 10-0 and 8-0. Saturday saw more success as the Wildcats won 9-1 and 7-1.
In the first series, Alissa Rampa socked a three-run homer early, and Ambar Huish added a homer later in the day.
"They were all fired up and ready to play," said Coach Scott Rasner. He commended starting pitcher Alyson Herman, who went the distance in all four games. "She's been working all week on her fastball and her change-up, and she's really picked up speed." He said Herman has "been carrying all the load" on the mound this season.
Saturday, Rampa hit two more home runs, and Ambar Huish went 2-for-3 in the first game and 2-for-4 in the second. Alex Arciniega had two hits in the opener and Anastacia Kreider had two hits including a homer in the second game.
Rasner said his goal for the team to continue to improve on the field and finish its first season strong. Western's only wins have been against Colorado Northwestern, but the coach hopes to surprise a few of the other Scenic West teams before the end of the season. The Wildcats are now 8-24 in their inaugural year, but are likely to go to the SWAC tournament that includes six of the conference's seven teams.
The team travels to North Idaho College in Coeur d'Alene this weekend.
