WNC Fallon Event to Play June 26-29
Western Nevada College's On Stage! youth production of Disney's The Jungle Book Kids" will be performed Friday, June 26, and Saturday June 27, at 7 p.m. at the Churchill County High School auditorium. A special benefit showing will be performed on Monday, June 29, at 7 p.m.
Directors Dave Wuth and Cynthia Olivo, volunteers, and local actors between the ages of 9 and 14, have worked tirelessly to bring the musical to the Fallon community through WNC's College for Kids program. Tickets are $3, available at WNC's Fallon campus and at the door. Children age 8 and younger are admitted free.
The story centers on Mowgli, a man-cub raised by wolves, who seeks his place in the world by making his way through the jungle back to humankind. He escapes the cruel intentions of Kaa the conniving snake, and Shere Kahn, the self-proclaimed king-of-the-jungle tiger, with the help of his friends and protectors, Bagheera the wise panther, Baloo the big bumbling bear, and the jungle. Mowgli's adventures continue with King Louie, the king of the monkeys, and his kin, until he finally finds peace after encountering Shanti, the girl who leads him back to the man-village.
Monday's benefit performance of "The Jungle Book Kids" will help theater choreographer and cancer patient Sara Swenson. Tickets are $3 for the performance at Churchill County High School.
Donations will help defray expenses for out-of-state medical treatment for Sara, who was recently diagnosed with osteosarcoma, bone cancer. Sara has served as choreographer for the WNC College for Kids On Stage! productions, including Annie Jr. and Aladdin Jr., for three years.
A long-time Fallon resident and a 2006 Churchill County High School graduate, Sara has touched the lives of many in the community through her unwavering faith, warmth and kindness, and helpfulness. The production staff, cast, crew and volunteers of The Jungle Books Kids will appreciate the community's support of, and generosity, at this event to assist Sara and her family with medical and travel expenses.
