Class begins Monday, July 6
Those interested in a new career in truck driving may sign up for a non-credit, four-week course at Western Nevada College Fallon campus beginning Monday, July 6. This is the second class offered in cooperation with Advanced Truck School.
The course costs $1,800 and includes 85 hours of classroom instruction plus 100 hours of hands-on operation of a vehicle. The course takes place at the WNC Fallon campus, to prepare students for the DMV truck driving (CDL) tests.
"It is the sole purpose of the truck school to bring truck driver training to rural Nevadans who might not otherwise have access to it," said to Arni Ares, owner of Advanced Truck School and its primary instructor.
Bus Scharmann, dean of the Fallon campus and rural development, said the truck school's primary goal is "the development of safe, knowledgeable, responsible and professional drivers for the trucking industry."
The college is working closely with Job Connect and other state agencies that may be able to assist students, if eligible, with the cost of tuition, and also with northern Nevada trucking companies to help graduates find jobs within the industry.
