Delightful Musical Makes Carson City Debut
The magic and splendor of Siam comes to Carson City this November as the Western Nevada Musical Theatre Company brings Rodgers and Hammerstein's classic, The King and I, the Carson City Community Center.
This captivating musical will play weekends, November 7-22.
Winner of multiple Tony and Academy awards, this musical tells the story of a British schoolteacher coming to Siam to educate the children of the King, a ruler entrenched in Eastern customs but intrigued with the West. Their unexpected and unlikely affection for each other overrides the vast cultural differences that separate them.
The story is embellished by some of Broadway's most beloved numbers, including Shall We Dance, Getting To Know You, and I Have Dreamed. Sarah Pennebaker (Nellie in 2008's South Pacific) is the essence of elegance as Anna Leonowens and Leoney Berg (Sky Masterson in Guys and Dolls) captures the stage as the brash and vulnerable king. Robin Kato stars as Tuptim, while Lun Tha is played by Emzy Burroughs and Ryan Ashley.
Some 40 singers and dancers complete the cast, accompanied by a live, professional orchestra. Stephanie Arrigotti produces and directs, Gina Kaskie-Davis is the choreographer.
