'Cats Grab Three of Four From CEU
After a successful home series against College of Eastern Utah last weekend, the WNC Wildcats are in for one of the toughest weekends of the season - playing four games at College of Southern Nevada. Ranked No. 1 nationally by the National Junior College Athletic Association, the Coyotes have one of the top draft prospects in the nation, catcher Bryce Harper.
Last weekend, the Wildcats got off to a solid start, taking three of four from CEU in their home opener at John L. Harvey Field.
"Our pitchers did a tremendous job of throwing strikes and challenging their hitter," said Head Coach DJ Whittemore. "To allow seven runs in four games is quite an accomplishment. Offensively, we did a great job of not giving away any at-bats, and the result was some well-hit balls."
This weekend's series is the Wildcats' "first big test of the season," the coach said. "It doesn't matter how long you play or coach in this game, you don't get many opportunities to play against the number one ranked team in the country."
On the plus side, Whittemore said, "Our young team is doing a great job of adjusting to college baseball."
