Colorado Trip Nets a Win
The Western Nevada College softball team came away with a win in a doubleheader Saturday at Colorado Northwestern Community College, but the Wildcats are still suffering from the Friday blues. The Wildcats dropped both Friday games in Rangely, 3-1 and 7-5, before they split the Saturday doubleheader with a 4-2 loss and a win in the nightcap, 4-3.
According to Coach Leah Wentworth, the Wildcats made mental mistakes on Friday, both at bat and on the bases, costing them the doubleheader.
"On Saturday, we played much better," she said. "We hit the ball hard," and freshman pitcher Jennifer Watkins was solid on the mound in the victory. "She threw really well all weekend, working ahead on batters and hitting her spots."
In game one, Kelsie Fahr was 3-3 at bat with an RBI while Alicia Merrell, Paige Savage and Chrissy Lawton each went 1-3. In game two, Alex Arciniega and Frances Estrada hit 2-3, Savage hit 2-4, Merrell and Alissa Rampa were 1-2, and Fahr was 1-3.
On Saturday, Arciniega and Ashley Williams hit 1-2 and Lisa Senko was 1-3. In the final game, Estrada, Savage and Williams were 1-3, while Arciniega and Ashley Hall were 1-4.
The Wildcats return home for a weekend series against North Idaho College, beginning at 1 p.m. Friday and noon Saturday at Edmonds Sports Complex in Carson City.
