Wildcats go 1-3 against CSN

WNC Softball Gets Weekend Win

WNC Softball enjoyed sunny skies and a win during doubleheaders Friday-Saturday, April 23-24 against Coyotes from the College of Southern Nevada. The series marked the team's final home-stand appearance for the 2010 season.

It was Saturday that proved victorious for WNC. The Wildcats topped CSN, 9-6 in an impressive game one battle. An RBI home run by Ashley Hall to bring in Frances Estrada would be the prelude to a stellar performance by Hall and the Wildcats. The score after one inning, 2-1 Wildcats.

In the second, Elissa Dawson sent one flying over the fence for a home run, and CSN was only able to respond with one hit, bringing the score to 3-2, WNC.

Alexandria Arciniega singled in the fourth and was brought home on an RBI double by Dawson. Hall earned her second home run of the game in the fifth to make the score to 5-2.

CSN took a 6-5 lead for a short time after a productive sixth inning, but they couldn't out run the Wildcats. In the seventh, Hall powered her third homerun to score Paige Savage, Estrada and Fahr. Wildcats win 9-6. Pitcher Jennifer Watkins earned the win.

The Wildcats fell to CSN in Saturday's second game, 2-11. Runs were earned in the fourth inning on an RBI double by Ashley Williams to bring in Arciniega and Hall.

Friday's match-up netted disappointing losses (3-5, 2-6) for the Wildcats, but it was not without an outstanding effort by WNC. In game one, Fahr landed an RBI double to score Lawton, Dawson hit an RBI double to score Fahr, and Arciniega smacked a home run for the Wildcats. Game two saw RBI singles by Merrell to score Lisa Senko and Dawson to score Fahr.

WNC Coach Leah Wentworth applauded her team for their solid effort. "The team looked the best I have seen them look all year," she said. "The win was just what we need to give us confidence going into the series against CSI."

Western travels to Twin Falls to take on the College of Southern Idaho Friday-Saturday, April 30-May 1 in their final series of the 2010 season.
