Wildcats sit in sixth place in the Scenic West Athletic Conference
The Wildcats finish the regular season with a record of 6-38 in conference play and 7-43 overall. The team waits in anticipation to see the results of this weekend's matchup between Snow College and Colorado Northwestern Community College to know if they will have a seat in the Region 18 tournament.
The win against the College of Southern Idaho during their final series of the season, Friday-Saturday, April 30-May 1 is exactly what the Wildcats needed to boost their confidence leading into the post-season.
Coach Leah Wentworth says she is proud of the team's efforts. "I am excited to see all the hard work starting to pay off," she said. "The girls played well this weekend, proving that they can compete with top-ranked teams."
Last Friday, Western rallied in game two to top CSI 5-6, after a slow start in game one which CSI took 0-8 in five innings.
WNC fought hard on Saturday, getting 10 runs off the second-ranked team in the Scenic West, although they ultimate fell to CSI 3-6 and 7-14.
Wentworth said, "We are peaking at the right time and would love nothing more than to end on a strong note with a spot in the playoffs."
