Director Roger Nygard to attend screening
The deepest questions of humanity and our existence will be explored in an entertaining and offbeat documentary film being shown at Western Nevada College on Friday, May 14, 7 p.m., in Marlette Hall. Admission is free.
"The Nature of Existence" a 93-minute film about the questions surrounding humanity, god and the universe, will open the college's 15th Annual Multicultural Festival. The festival culminates Saturday, May 15, in a daylong celebration of music, exhibits and food from diverse cultures represented in our local community, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Director/co-producer Roger Nygard will personally attend the screening and answer questions from the audience.
In "The Nature of Existence," Nygard and co-producer Paul Tarantino present provocative and sometimes hilarious sound bytes from scientists, authors, and representatives of the world's major faiths. Nygard also interviewed 175 people on four continents who have influenced humanity. His questions are "big picture" - "Why do we exist? What is religion? Can religion and science coexist? Is there a God? Do we have free will? What is morality? and more.
"As we selected which footage to keep, my goal was not to judge people, but to try to understand them," Nygard said.
Nygard has directed, produced, written and edited for film and television. His first feature was the comedy "High Strung." He later directed and edited "Trekkies," a documentary that was released by Paramount Pictures in 1999, and "Six Days in Roswell," a docu-comedy about UFO enthusiasts.
"The Nature of Existence" has screened at many film festivals around the globe, earning awards for best documentary at DocuFest Atlanta, best feature film at the Costa Rica Film Festival, and best documentary at the Greater Reading Film Festival. It was an official selection for the Cambridge (UK), Sao Paulo (Brazil), Bahamas, USA, Santa Fe, Newport Beach, Eugene, Temecula Valley, Pacific Palisades, Hot Springs and CineQuest film festivals.
Seating is limited to approximately 125.
