Western Faces Southern Idaho at 4 p.m.
The Wildcats struggled to prove themselves in Thursday's Region 18 tournament game against Salt Lake Community College. Their bats were alive, but the team left 13 runners on base, falling to Salt Lake 3-6.
Western led early, earning runs in the second inning. Pat McMeel singled and was brought home on an RBI double by Jonathan Sigado, who scored on a RBI single by Sean Dwyer. The score, 2-0 Wildcats. Salt Lake answered with two runs in the third inning and one in the sixth.
WNC scored to tie the game in the bottom of the sixth when Kevin Taylor reached on a fielder's choice and was brought home on an RBI single by Spencer Ofelt. Salt Lake got two runs in the seventh and one in the ninth to top WNC.
Pitcher Kramer Champlin went six innings, giving up three runs and allowing four hits. He was relieved by Tim Peterson who also allowed three runs and four hits, and took the loss for the Wildcats.
Western takes on the College of Southern Idaho at 4 p.m., Friday. Coach DJ Whittemore says, "The match-up with CSI will be a great test and an opportunity for us to show what we're made of."
