A new group of law enforcement professionals is ready to serve communities in western Nevada. Twenty-four cadets graduated from the Western Nevada State Peace Officer Academy during a ceremony Friday, Aug. 13, 10 a.m. at Western Nevada College Carson City campus. Captain Frank Shyne of the Fallon Police Department was the keynote speaker.

Top performing cadets were honored the ceremony. Jake Meddles received Top Gun honors for obtaining the highest scores in practical and written testing for the emergency vehicle operator course. He also earned the Physical Fitness Award for performing at the top of his class in physical training exercises.
Travis Hughes graduated as Top Gun for achieving the highest practical and written test scores. James LaChew was recognized as the most successful cadet in the Sharp Shooter Competition, outlasting his peers in a series of complex time target shooting. Silverio Mendoza received the Marksmanship Award for firing all shots within a finite target area during qualifying tests.
