Northern Nevadans have the opportunity to experience the beauty and history of art in the Eternal City next spring through a Western Nevada College study abroad course. WNC Fallon campus Art Professor Gil Martin will lead a trip to Rome during spring break, Thursday, March 17- Sunday, March 27, 2011. Students will enroll in Art Appreciation, ART 160 F01, for the spring 2011 term. Anyone interested is encouraged to attend an informational meeting, Wednesday, Oct. 6, 5 p.m., at WNC Fallon campus, 160 Campus Way, Virgil Getto Hall, room 312.
In Italy, Martin will lead students through a tour of the artistic glories of Rome including the Sistine Chapel, Vatican museums, the Roman Forum and the Galleria Doria Pamphilj. The class will meet three times preceding the trip in preparation for the tour.
"Students will experience first-hand some of the greatest works of art of Western Civilization, something they simply cannot get out of a book," Martin said.
The class can be taken for course credit or audited as a non-credit course. Students will be required to fund their own travel accommodations in addition to the standard course fee of $239.25. A valid passport is required for travel.
