Nine high school baseball players have signed letters of intent to play at Western Nevada College in 2012. Each recruit boasts a resume of honors as a leader on the field, bringing a broad mix of talent to the Wildcats team.
Among the future Wildcats is Carson High School senior Colby Blueberg, an all-around athlete who plays shortstop and outfield, and can also pitch. In 2010, Blueberg earned all-conference honors for baseball, as well as all-northern 4A defensive back honors and the Prime Time Award for the most interceptions in league and state 4A for football.
Two Southern Nevada players have committed to Western - AJ Hernandez from Cimarron High School and Brandon Show from Shadow Ridge High School. Hernandez is a well-liked shortstop, unique for the fact that he hits left-handed, and Show is a shortstop and pitcher who will bring a very strong arm to the team.
Rounding out the 2012 recruits are Cody Hamlin, a big, right-handed pitcher from Timberline High School in Boise, Idaho; Dylan Smith (Olympia, Wash), a stellar athlete who will be key as an outfielder; Phillip Belding, a right-handed pitcher from Westview High School in Beaverton, Ore.; Cole Furgeson, a strong player with a big bat from North Salem High School in Hillsboro, Ore.; Michael Sherwin, one of the highest rated hitters in the Pacific Northwest from Auburn Riverside High School in Auburn, Wash.; and Rayne Raven, a versatile right-handed pitcher, position player and hitter from Curtis High School in Tacoma, Wash.
