The Board of Regents for the Nevada System of Higher Education has honored Director of Counseling Services Deborah Case as Nevada's 2011 Academic Advisor of the Year. She was nominated by both colleagues, students and college leaders.
Case is described as an "inspirational advisor who always has an open door," by one student, and Carol Lange, Interim Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs, says, "I have come to admire Deb for her ability to first and foremost focus on the best possible outcome for our students."
In addition to her primary role at WNC, Case is the advisor for the construction technology program and Campus Connect, a student club which works to unite adult students in an effort to enhance their college experience. She created the college's peer mentor program and is an active member of the Student Success subcommittee, which focuses on supporting academically under-prepared students.
"It is a great honor to nominated," Case said. "I'd like to thank the Regents, and also Dr. (Carol) Lucey for her support."
