Garrison and Peterson Commit to Kentucky
Western Nevada College pitchers Chris Garrison and Tim Peterson have signed letters of intent to play at the University of Kentucky. The Kentucky Wildcats are part of the Southeastern Conference, one of the top conferences in the country.
The pitchers shared the top-spot in wins for the WNC Wildcats; Peterson, from Puyallup, Wash., went 8-1, and Garrison, from Rocklin, Calif., went 8-4. Both players were named to the National Junior College Athletic Association's Region XVIII first team, and Garrison received Relief Pitcher of the Year honors.
Peterson and Garrison found success at Western in the classroom as well, graduating this spring with Associate of Arts degrees and earning above a 3.8 GPA during their final season.
Another WNC alum, Lance Ray (2009), played for Kentucky in 2010. Ray, an outfielder, was drafted by the Minnesota Twins last year and plays for the Class-A Beloit Snappers.
Coach DJ Whittemore said, "I'm thrilled for the guys to follow in Lance's footsteps at Kentucky. In addition to what they did for us on the mound, they played key leadership roles for our team at practice and in the dugout. It feels good to have them rewarded with scholarships. This is proof that good things happen to good people."
