Students find success through peer-mentoring and advising.
WNC welcomed new Latino students and their parents to campus last month, in an effort to elevate the student experience and make the process of earning a college degree easier. The students are part of the college's Latino cohort, which provides a supportive learning community to help students connect with each other and be successful in achieving a college degree.
Students in the cohort program receive a head coach, or mentor, to advise them while they are Western and peer-mentoring support from a high-performing college student who can provide leadership and advice.
One hundred percent of the students in the 2010-2011 cohort completed the fall semester and continued to take classes in the spring. With assistance from WNC and their parents, they are on track to complete their associate degrees in a timely manner.
