Artists reception Wed., Sept. 21, 5:30 pm
Western Nevada College Fallon art professor Gil Martin and instructor Rob Peterson have collaborated to present a new exhibition at the WNC Fallon Gallery. "Modern/Post/Modern," an exploration of the boundaries of technology, past and present, exhibits through Friday, Oct. 21,
The artists engage in a visual dialogue in which Martin uses natural earth pigments and raw materials to construct abstract paintings, while Peterson offers thought-provoking manipulations of digital imagery. One notable piece, an untitled creation by Peterson, is the image of somber-faced women clad in staples, whose demeanor is a sharp contrast to the vibrant purples, yellows and
oranges that wash over her.
Martin describes Peterson's use of color as "palpably vibrant, something new in presenting digital photography."
One of Martin's pieces, "A Work in Progress," features a series of circular renditions, which together maybe be interpreted as the rough drafts of an artist in pursuit of a perfected masterpiece.
Of the exhibit, Martin says, "It's interesting how both of us, working independently, have come up with a complementary body of work."
The public is invited to meet the artists at a free reception, Wednesday, Sept. 21, 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the gallery. The exhibit can be viewed Monday-Thursday, 8 a.m.- 10 p.m., and Friday, 8 a.m.- 5 p.m.
