Nursing Lab Dedication Honors Hospital
Western Nevada College nursing faculty, students and foundation board members, and representatives from Carson Tahoe Regional Healthcare gathered at the college last week to recognize CTRH for a generous contribution to the college’s nursing program. Last fall, the organization donated $80,000, enabling the college to hire an additional nursing instructor and admit eight more students into the program, which continually has a waiting list.
WNC has named the laboratory the Carson Tahoe Regional Healthcare Nursing and Allied Health Lab in honor of the donors.
Attendees included Cathy Dinauer, CTRH Vice President of Patient Care Services; WNC President Carol Lucey; Dr. Judith Cordia, WNC nursing director; WNC Foundation Chair Jed Block; and Bartley Clark, a current WNC nursing student. Speakers acknowledged the efforts of Ed Epperson, president and CEO of CTRH, in making this gift possible.
Because of the valuable partnership, the WNC nursing program was able to enroll 100 students this school year, with 56 students in the first year and 44 in the second year of the rigorous program.
“The college is extremely appreciative of the confidence and interest shown by Carson Tahoe,” Dr. Cordia said. “This gift exemplifies the value the medical center portrays for people and education. The eight additional students admitted to the program also represent eight additional working citizens, and eight additional salaries contributing to the economy upon graduation.
"The heritage of this gift will be appreciated by our students who have been offered the chance for a career of a lifetime."
