Western Nevada College is offering non-credit, continuing education classes this May for anyone who is interested in developing writing skills, learning self-defense, enhancing baby-sitting skills or increasing physical fitness. Upcoming classes include,
Life Story Writing, 5-6:30 p.m., Thursdays, May 3-17, WNC Douglas campus. This course in intended to help aspiring writers create their life story or that of someone they know. Instructor and freelance writer/author Karen Dustman will give tips on tapping into memories, capturing details and using historical content. Self-publishing pointers will also be provided. Cost is $56.
R.I.P.P.E.D (Resistance, Internals, Power, Plyometrics, Endurance and Diet), 5:30-6:30 p.m. or 7-8 p.m., Mondays and Wednesdays, May 7-June 27, WNC Carson City campus. This class offers a total-body, high-intensity workout, using free weights, resistance and body weight. The workout is combined with diet suggestions to help students attain their fitness goals. Cost is $100.
Women's Self Defense, 6-7:45 pm., Tuesdays, May 8-29, WNC Carson City campus. Students will learn how to protect and defend themselves, through awareness of self and surroundings, and physical strength. Cost is $85.
Babysitting Certification, 9 a.m.- 3:30 p.m., Saturday, May 19, WNC Carson City campus. Open to anyone 11 years old and up, this class uses American Red Cross curriculum to teach students to be professional and responsible babysitters. The class covers interviewing and preparing for a babysitting job, basic skills of childcare and first-aid, and games and techniques to entertain children. Upon completion, students will be mailed an American Red Cross completion card. Cost is $72, and includes book and DVD. Students should bring a sack lunch.
