Carson Valley guild shows their 'favorite things'
A new art exhibit at Western Nevada College Carson City is sure to evoke a smile and warm feelings. The Carson Valley Quilt Guild is showing colorful, bright and shiny quilts that evoke their ‘Favorite Things’ now through Wednesday, May 30, in the College Gallery. Visitors are welcome weekdays, 8 a.m.-8 p.m., or 8 a.m., 5 p.m. on Saturdays, except holidays.
In 2011, members of the group were challenged to make a quilt depicting the theme of ‘My Favorite Things’. The piece could be no larger than 30” square and had to contain both yellow and turquoise fabrics in recognizable portions on the front. Any technique could be used as well as other fabrics.
Pieces are as diverse as a mountain hike complete with a stream created from blue sequins, a favorite coffee shop, a snowy hill full of skiers, and abstract designs with colorful flowers and clusters of buttons.
In February, the group convened and voted on their favorite quilt. The winners are:
First Place: Nancy Lampson for Take a Hike
Second Place: Sherry Loncar for FassettFlowerFabric Funalicious
Third Place: Lisa DuCoing for Quixotic Obsession
