WNC Nursing Graduates Earn Accolades

Western Nevada College honored 41 associate degree nursing graduates during a traditional nurse pinning ceremony this week at the Carson Nugget in Carson City.

Several graduates were recognized with achievement awards including: Amanda Hall - Academic Award and Nevada Student Nurse of Achievement Award; Tamiya Ferguson - WNC Spirit of Nursing Award; and Kelli McDonnell and Leanna Ogle - Associated Students of Western Nevada Outstanding Student of the Year-Nursing Award.

Graduates were ceremoniously pinned by family members or friends who supported them during their studies and clinical work. Many emphasized the time and effort it takes to achieve a nursing degree, and the value of encouragement by family and friends.

One graduate also lauded her teachers. “What a journey this has been,” said graduate Lindsey Foxen. “It would not have been possible without the amazing instructors. They were a pillar of support, an epitome of strength, as loving as a mother, as strict as a father, as caring as a friend, disciplinarians, yet always so approachable and warm at heart. They have been my mentors and role models for the past two years, and I am proud to have been taught by them.”
