Softball fundraiser Sunday, Oct. 14
Help support Western Nevada College athletics by participating in the Wildcats Softball 5K Fundraiser run, set for Sunday, Oct. 14, at Edmonds Sports Complex in Carson City.
The softball program is financed through private fundraising. In previous years, Head Coach Leah Wentworth has raised money by selling advertising in the team’s game program and through a January fundraising dinner, which also generates money for the WNC baseball program.
“This will help with our overall costs to run the program. Our main cost is for travel to our games, and this will help out in that area,” Wentworth said.
Last season, the Wildcats travelled to weekend tournaments and opponents in the Scenic West Athletic Conference: Salt Lake City; Las Vegas; Rangely, Colo.; Ephriam, Utah; and Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.
The 5K entry fee is $30 and includes an event T-shirt. Racing starts at 9 a.m. Runners can register for the event at active.com until Oct. 13.
Edmonds Sports Complex is located at the south end of Carson City at 1555 Livermore Lane.
Those wishing to provide additional monetary support of the softball program can join the Dugout Club at www.wnc.edu/athletics/softball/dugout.php.
“Every bit counts right now,” Wentworth said. “We’re still at the point where we haven’t been able to fully fund our program through private fundraising.”
Last season, the Wildcats surpassed the 20-win mark for the first time in the four-year history of the program. Wentworth's Wildcats won 21 games, advanced to the Region 18 tournament, and three players were selected to the All-Region 18 first or second teams.
