Graduate Earns Recognition
Shannon E. White, a Dayton resident and 2008 graduate of Western Nevada College, is one of 12 service members who were recognized during the 20th annual United Service Organization’s Europe Service Salute on October 19 at Ramstein Air Base in Germany.
The Salute honored junior enlisted personnel representing U.S. and German armed forces for their outstanding military and community achievements.
White graduated from WNC with an Associate of Applied Science degree in Computer Networking. He also made the Dean’s List several times while completing his degree.
A senior airman in the 603rd Air @ Space Squadron of the U.S. Air Forces Europe, White was among seven members of the United States Armed Forces honored. Five other honorees were from the Germany military. The Salute recognizes men and women from both countries, reaffirming the partnership between the armed forces of each nation.
Walt Murren, regional vice president of USO Europe, applauded the efforts of White and the other 11 honorees.
“Thank you for your outstanding service to your nation and to the principles of freedom,” Murren said at the ceremony. “All here tonight are free to enjoy their lives in peace because of your personal sacrifice and that of your brothers and sisters in arms. Thank you from our heart, all of us here at USO, thank you.”
Other U.S. honorees were Cpl. Charles M. Williams, U.S. Marine Corps; Spc. Antonio M. King, U.S. Army Africa; Spc. Alexander D. Johnson, U.S. Special Operations Command Europe; Spc. Francisco Lee Flores, U.S. Army Europe; Seaman Kara Leone DiNicola, U.S. Coast Guard; and Aerographer’s Mate Airman Kylie J. Marty, U.S. Naval Forces Europe.
