Don’t Miss the Chance to Meet Baseball Great Matt Williams
Excitement is building for the upcoming Western Nevada College Wildcats Athletics Gala. Tickets are still available for the fund-raising event on Thursday, Jan. 24, at the Downtown Reno Ballroom. Tables are selling and auction donations are coming in. Carson City Toyota, the State Agent Transfer Office, Southwest Gas Corporation, WNC foundation board members, and many WNC faculty/staff members have already bought tickets to the event.
Tables of 10 are $1,000 and individual tickets are $100, Purchase tickets here or through the WNC Foundation at 775-445-3240.
Headlining the evening is Major League Baseball great and former Carson High School baseball star Matt Williams, who played for three Major League Baseball teams, including the San Francisco Giants, and in three World Series during his 17-year career. Now a coach for the Arizona Diamondbacks, Williams said he is happy to come home and help the cause of WNC’s baseball and softball programs, which rely heavily on donations to operate.
It’s an event that’s not to be missed’” said Katie Leao, WNC director of Development. “It’s going to be a great evening with Matt Williams, great food and drink, live and silent auction items that will offer Nevada adventures, and music by the Brassakwards swing band.”
“It will be fun to come home and see some familiar faces and be part of the event,” Williams said. “I’m honored that they asked me to be part of it,”
Attendees will also have the opportunity to bid on dining, entertainment and recreational experiences during a live and silent auction. “The auctions are always a lot of fun,” Leao said. “We’ve been fortunate to receive so many generous donations from the community,”
WNC athletic teams do not receive state general funding, so the softball and baseball teams hold fundraisers to help cover their expenses.
