Donate to "Holiday with a Hero"
Western Nevada College students and staff members helped bring smiles to Carson City children during the eighth annual “Holiday with a Hero” shopping spree December 13-14. Now, WNC staff, students and others can help pave the way for next year’s event as well.
The charitable holiday program offered by Walmart presented $100 gift cards to needy children to purchase gifts for family and friends, as well as themselves. While shopping, the children were accompanied by law enforcement officers, first responders and military personnel who assisted with their needs in the store.
“This year, we were able to provide an opportunity for 241 children in the Carson City school district to buy Christmas gifts for themselves and their family members,” said Christina Hillis of WNC. “Volunteers help these children not only shop for their gifts but also help with wrapping all of the gifts that are purchased.”
Hillis said there is a way for WNC and community members to help with preparations for next year’s “Holiday with a Hero.” The organization is in need of used gift bags.
“Gift bags are quite expensive, and donations of gently used bags helps offset the overall cost of the event,” she said. Anyone wishing to donate a gift bag can deliver it to the Information Desk at the Carson City campus. Douglas and Fallon campus employees and students can drop off bags at the administrative office.
