Western Nevada College opens its fifth softball season at a tournament in Henderson, ready to take on a challenge. Two of the Wildcats’ six opponents in the tournament are ranked in the National Junior College Athletic Association’s Top 10 national poll.

The Wildcats are scheduled to play Yavapai of Prescott, Ariz., in their season opener at 1 p.m. as well as Central Arizona of Coolidge, Ariz., at 6 p.m.

On Saturday, WNC will play three opponents: South Mountain of Phoenix at 10:30 a.m., eighth-ranked Eastern Arizona of Thatcher, Ariz., at 3:30 p.m. and Glendale, Ariz., at 6 p.m.

WNC will conclude its season-opening tournament with an 8 a.m. encounter with Pima of Tucson, Ariz., on Sunday. Pima is ranked ninth in the NJCAA’s preseason poll.
