Leads Four Game Series 2-0 Over NIC
Western Nevada College softball team made it a clean sweep on Wednesday as the Wildcats wrapped up a doubleheader with a 7-2 victory in the bottom of the doubleheader, after prevailing in the opener of a four-game series 5-4.
After a scoreless first inning, North Idaho struck first with two runs on three hits off of freshman pitcher Carlee Beck. WNC answered in the bottom of the inning with a run by Andi Lee, who walked and then advanced on a single by Caroline McCarthy, scoring on a passed ball to trail 2-1.
The Wildcats held the Cardinals scoreless in the third inning despite two hits, and then mounted a strong effort in the bottom of the inning that culminated in four runs on three hits, and a 5-2 lead. Sophomore Jenny Quam began the charge with a walk to first base, followed by three stolen bases to score. Madi Gonzalez walked, and moments later came home when Sydney Darby smacked a two-run single to extend the lead to 5-2.
WNC’s final scores came in the fourth inning when they put up two runs off four hits. Leading the hitting was Lee, who went 2-3, Darby 2-4, Gonzalez 2-2, and Quam, 1-3.
Carlee Beck got the win on the mound, completing 5 innings and allowing 2 runs on six hits. Lexie Alley pitched t2o scoreless innings in relief, allowing one hit.
With the win, the Wildcats moved to 6-9 in the Scenic West Athletic Conference.
