Quam to play at the University of Texas of Permian Basin next season.
Jennifer Quam, a sophomore center fielder, signed a letter of intent to attend University of Texas of the Permian Basin. She joins her teammate from a year ago, Taleas Marble, at UTPB.
Quam, who played her high school ball at North Valleys High School in Reno, became the first Wildcat to make the All-Region first team last year. She was hitting .280 entering the Snow series and had stolen 41 bases in 46 attempts.
A year ago, Quam was the consummate leadoff hitter, getting on base 42.2 percent of the time. She was second on the Wildcats with a .345 batting average and topped the team with 70 hits.
Once on base, Quam put opposing infielders on edge with her ability to steal second and third bases. She obliterated the school record with 55 steals in 59 attempts during the regular season, placing her sixth in the National Junior College Athletic Association with a 93.22 percent success rate. Quam added two more steals in the postseason, giving her 57 for the season.
“Jennie has grown so much in her two years at Western,” said coach Leah Wentworth. “We’re proud that she will continue to play at the next level, but we are sad to see her go.”
