WNC to Host Multi-Faith Baccalaureate
Western Nevada College will host its first Multi-Faith Baccalaureate Service this year, for the WNC graduating class of 2013. It will begin at 8 a.m. (7:30 a.m. check-in), Monday, May 20, at the Carson City Community Center, 851 East William Street, Carson City. It has been timed so that graduates and their families may move easily from the baccalaureate event to the 11 a.m. commencement ceremony in minutes.
Graduates will be blessed by representatives from many faiths and beliefs, including, Bahá’í, Buddist, Christian, Hindu, Jewish, Mormon, Muslim, Native American and Roman Catholic beliefs. Non-believers will also be represented. Light refreshments will be available following the service.
Students from the WNC Douglas Diversity Club will sponsor the traditional service. Religious statesman Rajan Zed has also assisted the college in preparing the event, which is traditional at colleges and universities around the nation.
WNC commencement ceremonies are Monday, May 20, 11 a.m., at the Pony Express Pavilion, 1111 East William Street in Carson City for Carson City and Douglas campus graduates, and Tuesday, May 21, 7 p.m., at Barkley Theatre, Oats Park Art Center, 151 Park Street in Fallon, for Fallon campus and rural community graduates.
Additionally, nursing graduates will be honored during a pinning ceremony on Monday, May 20, 3 p.m., at the Carson Nugget, 507 North Carson Street, Carson City.
