2013 Class Represents Many Communities
Western Nevada College's State Peace Officer Academy’s 2013 graduation class. Twenty-two cadets were honored Friday, Aug. 9, at the college.
The 2013 WNC graduating class hails from throughout the region:
Carson City- Nathan Cooper, Dana Kincaid and Anthony Viglietta
Reno - James Angel, Jon Beaumont, Nicholas Collins, Kyle Davis, Charlie Evans, Adam Hall, Derek Jakob, Kevin Lewis, Nefi Perez, Tomas Ramirez, Melissa Reed, Joe Rodriguez and Christina Torres
Fallon - Chris Bloomfield
Sparks - Joel Martin, Jacqueline Mitcham, Mike Mitcham, Adam Nicholson and Christian Roberts
Cadets graduating with special recognition are:
Charlie Evans - Top Gun award;
Adam Hall and Kevin Lewis - Top Gun for Emergency Vehicle Operations;
Class Valedictorian - Jacqueline Mitcham;
Joe Rodriguez - Sharp Shooter Competition Award.
Jason Gault, a detective with the state Department of Public Safety’s Investigative Division, addressed the group.
Graduating cadets completed an intensive 30.5 credit law enforcement program that began in January. Along with the academic requirements of the program, cadets were physically required to make a vertical jump of 16 inches, perform 32 sit-ups in one minute, do 30 push-ups in one minute, run 30 meters in 65 seconds or better, run/walk 1.5 miles in 15:30 or better, and complete the Illinois Agility Run in 18.6 seconds.
They are now qualified to take the Peace Officer Standards and Training Exam.
Five graduating cadets have already landed positions in Northern Nevada communities with the Carson City Sheriff’s Department; Eureka County Sheriff’s Department; Storey County Sheriff’s Department, and Winnemucca Police Department.
