The Associated Students of Western Nevada is doing its part to bring warmth to needy families during the winter months through its Mitten Tree clothing collection program.
Western Nevada College’s student government has set up undressed Christmas trees in the Bristlecone and Cedar Buildings on the Carson City campus and in the lobbies of Piñon and Virgil Getto halls on the Fallon campus so that students and faculty members can donate new or gently used mittens, hats and scarves.
“By donating these items, we are giving those less fortunate than us the ability to keep arm during these winter months,” said Alana Rogne, an ASWN senator. “It shows that student government is not just here for our students; we also are involved in the lives of our local community.”
All sizes of mittens, scarves and hats for children and adults can be donated through Dec. 17.
WNC Douglas manager Sergio Arteaga said his campus is in the process of putting up a Mitten Tree, too.
