Western Nevada College’s express classes offer college credit for weekend or short-term classes, which may be a good fit for anyone with busy schedules. Welding, health care, machine shop, algebra and human anatomy are some of the subjects that WNC is offering students this spring in short term or weekend formats.
“We are working to accommodate many students who work full time and/or have family obligations, which make attending college during the week oftentimes difficult. This semester we are offering a plethora of weekend courses to students,” said Sherry Black, WNC academic director for career and technical education.
Algebra Review (MATH 092, multiple sections, one unit) meets before the start of the spring semester to prepare students for the math placement test. Students will receive a review of algebra to refresh previously taught concepts.
Classes are 1-4:15 p.m., Monday-Thursday, Jan. 13-16 or 9-11:45 a.m., Tuesday-Friday, Jan. 13-17.
Introduction to General Mechanics (AUTO 101, multiple sections, three units) teaches principles, design, construction and maintenance of automobiles. The class covers safety, use of manuals, selection and use of hand tools, and hand-held test instruments. Classes meet 8 a.m.-2 p.m., Monday-Thursday, Jan. 21-31 or Saturdays, Jan. 25-March 15.
Certified Inspector- Residential (CONS 260, section 1001, 3 units), Under-Floor Inspections for Certified Inspector (CONS 261, section 1001, one unit), Above-Floor Inspections for Certified Inspector (CONS 262, section 1001, 2 units) and Supervised Residential Inspections for Certification (CONS 263, section 1001, four units) prepare students for certification in residential inspection. Collectively, the classes fill the minimum requirements needed for licensure for the state of Nevada.
CONS 260 meets Monday-Friday, Jan. 28-24, CONS 261 meets, Saturday and Sunday, March 1-2, CONS 262 meets Saturday and Sunday, March 8-April 6, and CONS 263 meets Saturday and Sunday, April 12-Mary 4. Classes meet from 8 a.m.- 5 p.m.
Welding I (WELD 211, section 1004, three units); Welding II (WELD 221, section 1003, three units); Welding III (WELD 231, section 1002, three units); and Welding IV (WELD 241, section 1002, three units) give students the knowledge and experience for employment in the field from an introduction to the fundamentals in Welding I to advanced skills and welding processes in Welding IV. WELD 211 meets Jan. 21-31, WELD 221 meets Feb. 18-28, WELD 231 April 7-18 and WELD 241 meets May 5-16. Classes are 8 a.m.- 2 p.m., Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.
