The WNC community is deeply saddened to learn of the sudden death of Curtis Blackwell, a WNC student who served as the Associated Students of Western Nevada president in 2012-2013. He was studying communications and political science, and intended to transfer to the University of Nevada, Reno to pursue a degree in public administration. One of his dreams was to someday run for public office.
As student body president, Blackwell represented WNC students at meetings of the Nevada System of Higher Education Board of Regents, and oversaw many student events and campus initiatives.
Director of Admissions Dianne Hilliard said Curtis “did very well” academically, and was a member of Phi Theta Kappa Honor society.
“Curtis was very helpful and good to work with when planning last year’s college commencement ceremony,” she added.
His daughter is a WNC graduate, and his wife and son attend Western. A full memorial is planned for the April newsletter.
