Enhance Digital Photography Skills in Short Course
Need an extra credit? Want to try something new or just take a break from your regular classes? WNC students with an interest in digital photography should consider an introductory course Western Nevada College is offering on two weekends in May on the Carson City campus.
The one-credit course - ART 299: Introduction to Digital Landscape Photography, meets May 2-3 and 9-10, on Friday evening, 6-9 p.m., and on Saturday, 9 a.m.-4 p.m., in Cedar Building Rm. 331A
It will include two field trips, photo reviews, feedback and basic Photoshop instruction. Students receive one credit toward fine arts or elective requirements.
Dr. Hal Starratt, a WNC anthropology professor since 2003, will direct the class.
“As an introduction to Digital Landscape Photography, we will cover the basics of exposure and composition, and just what makes a good landscape photograph,” Starratt said. “We will take field trips to local sites to practice making landscape images on each of the Saturday meetings. Then, back in the lab, we will cover some elemental postproduction adjustments in Photoshop.
“We will be looking at and sharing ideas about each others' images in order to gain a wider perspective about our own work. In the end, we will print a few of our best shots to show off to our families and friends. The hope is that this will be an enjoyable hands-on learning experience.”
Classes meet 6 to 9 p.m. May 2 and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 3 and 10 in Cedar Building room 331A. Field trips are planned for May 3 and 10.
Students are required to bring their own camera and Universal Serial Bus (USB) thumb drive. There is a $25 lab fee.
